WHAT IS LOCAL COLOR? Color can be defined in several different ways. It is often considered an element consisting of three properties: hue, intensity, and value. It is the aspect of an object caused by different qualities of light reflecting from it. It can be vibrant or muted, and as Stewart White points out, “Simple color has vast emotional content. “ The word ‘Color’ is also used to reference the character, nature, vitality, or interest of a person, place, or thing. We hope you will participate in our July show to share your artistic interpretation of the Eastern Shore and the people, animals, landscapes, water scenes, and buildings that make it so colorful.
LOCAL COLOR will be judged by Stewart White, AWS, PWS, of Easton/ Baltimore. Stewart is an award winning artist specializing in transparent watercolor and architectural illustration. He considers himself an American Impressionist and studied at the Pratt Institute and UC Berkeley. He believes that “It is not enough to merely paint the appearance of anything but to communicate one’s interest in the subject. “
First and second prizes will be awarded in three categories: painting, photography, and three dimensional art. Winners will be announced on First Friday, July 1.
Stewart says “...to paint is to draw out the poetry of a thing or a scene.” Show curators Pat Thompson and Cindy Stafford believe this applies to all other forms of art as well.
