Take Another Look-March 2022

Call For Artists: Take Another Look

Representational depiction requires us to choose (consciously or otherwise) the way we express our subject. This begins, of course, with the choice of medium, and continues with the selection of composition, light, color, perspective, shape and much more. The result is but one portrayal from a rich and limitless pool of other possibilities. With “Take Another Look”, we seek to inspire you to explore those possibilities. Take your initial work and challenge yourself to convey your subject in a distinctly different way. Perhaps with a new medium, or from a completely different angle, or with unexpected colors, or in an abstracted form. Go ahead and experiment. You are invited to submit two or three works, in any one or more media, presenting your differing interpretations of your subject.

Curator: David B. Gifford is a retired Philadelphia lawyer. He can’t help that. He first seriously engaged with the visual arts in high school and completed one semester at Tyler School of Art before earning a more lucrative degree in Philosophy. He then wandered on to the practice of law. After retiring to Kent County, he rediscovered his interest in the visual arts and now paints in pastel at his studio in Rock Hall. He exhibits regularly at the RiverArts gallery in Chestertown.
