Artist Bio

I made my first pot in October, 1962. It was at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, when the ambition was originally to be a painter. The clay became a stronger attraction. Since 1969, my work has been done in my own studios. That studio has been in Still Pond, MD, since 1978.

I was trained to compose my own clay body and my own glazes and have done so since the beginning. The pottery is stoneware and high fired. The pots are functional and safe to use in microwaves and dishwashers.

In the 1970s I was on the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and the American Crafts Council. I received three grants from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1976-78.
