Global Art Project for Peace

RiverArts Member Marianne Sade has participated in this rewarding local & global community-building program since the 1980s.

We have signed RiverArts up as a group -- which means we will be assigned another group across the world for an art exchange! It's like our Art Pen Pals writ large!

"Nominated for a UNESCO Prize, the Global Art Project is an international art exchange for peace which has involved 160,000 participants in 95 countries on seven continents."

Anyone can participate!

"Here's how it works: Participants create a work of art in any medium, expressing their vision of global peace and goodwill. The art is displayed locally in each participant’s community. Global Art Project then organizes an international exchange by matching participants—group-to-group and individual-to-individual. The exchange occurs April 23-30 biennially, resulting in thousands of people sending messages of Peace around the world at one time—visions of unity simultaneously encircle the Earth. The art is sent as a gift of global friendship and exhibited in the receiving community."

We are asking you to CREATE -- & we will take care of the rest!

1. Create your own peace-themed two-dimensional artwork on 8.5x11 paper and deliver it to the Global Art Project inbox at RiverArts' Gallery no later than Wednesday, March 30. (Can also be mailed to us at 315 High St, Suite 106, Chestertown, MD 21620, especially if you're one of our members who lives out of town or heads south for the winter!)

  • RiverArts volunteer Marianne Sade will have a table at the Chestertown Farmers' Market on Saturdays, March 5 & March 19. People may stop by & create something those days using supplies provided.

2. In April, we will exhibit all the works submitted at the Kent County Public Library in Chestertown. We are grateful for their collaboration on this partnership!

  • Global Art Peace Project Talk - On Saturday, April 2, from 11 am to noon, Marianne will be available to speak about the project's history & more at the library by the exhibit.

3. At the end of April, we will mail the packet of artworks to our matched recipient across the world -- and eagerly wait exchanged artwork in return!

If you would like to participate, please fill out this form so we know of your interest. It does NOT obligate you.

Thank you so much! What fun this will be to exchange artwork with another group around the world!
