Studio Tour 21
Marlayn has had a longtime affinity for pottery and started making ceramics after taking a class at RiverArts. The community of potters and programs at the RiverArts Clay Studio continue to be a source of support and inspiration. Working from her home studio she uses a potters wheel and hand-building techniques to create her work. Form and the exploration of different surface treatments like sgraffito, mono-printing, slip-trailing and the layering of glazes and engobes keep her inspired and engaged with clay. Her work is primarily functional and intended for everyday use. Her goal is to create well-crafted pots that bring a sense of grace and connection to daily living. Marlayn has worked as the art director at Mullin/Ashley Associates, a marketing agency, since 1990 and is one of the principle owners. She earned a BFA from Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York majoring in Graphics Design.
