I'm a retired psychology professor who, while leading a group of students through Europe, realized how little I knew about the world of art. As a result, I audited my university's four art history courses. Then, when my wife and I moved to the DC area after retirement, I had an opportunity to join a new training class for docents at SAAM. After a year and a half of more art history and other training, I began leading tours at the museum in 2015. With the closure of the museum last year because of Covid, I've missed the interaction with the public but have found that leading these virtual tours is very rewarding.
