Trish Rana was born and raised in Manila, Philippines until the age of nine when her family decided to make the big move to the United States. From there, she grew to learn and appreciate American culture and the vast diversity of the people she came across. In this salon discussion, Trish talks about the use of skin whitening products in the Philippines and and how it is prolific amongst the native population of Filipinos. The cosmetics industry normalizes the use of skin whitening products as a way of marketing and profiting from their products, while at the same time reinforcing the Western, hegemonic, imperialistic values on Filipinos.
