CANCELLED - January 22: Yarnbombing 101

Saturday, January 22, 1-3pm

Location: Most likely, our ArtsAlive Education Center at 200 High Street, on the corner of High & Queen Streets, right across from Evergrain Bakery. We will have ongoing construction in this building in early 2022, so you will receive an email closer to the class date confirming the exact location in downtown Chestertown (in case we need to meet in our Gallery or another nearby location).

Colorful and fun, yarnbombing & yarnstorming create delightful public art in unexpected places. For the past two years, Adkins Arboretum has hosted a yarnstorming event in the spring, asking artists to "adorn native trees with everything from pompoms to needle felted animals to branch and trunk wraps and hammocks for woodland creatures."

Read more about this year's event at Adkins Arboretum Yarnstorming. We encourage you to participate in their exhibit, which will be on display March 6 through April 3, with a reception planned for March 13.

And here's where the Yarnbombing Ladies of Rock Hall come in! Did you see the cool sea-themed & pirate yarn creations in Rock Hall the last two summers? A group of dedicated crafters created these wonderful works using knitting, crocheting, wrapping, and other ingenious techniques. Come learn how they do it! Check out this article: 'Happy Surprise' in Rock Hall as fence gets yarn bombed

Bring your own yarn, scissors, and any other supplies you might like to use (knitting or crochet needles if you do that sort of thing!). The Rock Hall ladies will share photos of their past creations along with tips and tricks for how to create your own yarnbombing work of art.

Masks are required in all of RiverArts indoor spaces. Thank you for your cooperation!
