Finding My Wayby Cheryl Schlenker

16 x 20 Acrylic on canvas

I tried to paint some sunflowers as if I were first, Matisse, second, Monet, and third, Picasso. The last square is blank for me to paint some sunflowers in my own way. I chose sunflowers because this winter has been so gloomy and cold, I thought they are the perfect metaphor for hope. (There WILL be flowers blooming again!)

Village (interrupted)by Marilee Taussig

5 x 7 Watercolor and liquid charcoal on paper, $200

Village, plain. Imperfect because I began this piece with the notion that it would be far more innate and detailed, like most of my work. I was interrupted and came back and realized that at it's very early stage, it might say more than lot of more labored-over pieces. Framed, under glass

I was unhappy with this painting...so much so that I decided to wipe it out. Literally. I sprayed one part of it thoroughly and gave a solid wipe intending to completely erase the painting. Something made me stop after that first vigorous wipe. The overpainted "woods" had acquired a wonderful dreamy vague quality. The rocks (the only part of the painting I had liked) were essentially the same. And, quite by chance, there was the painting I really wanted, emerging, literally, from the mist.

Daily Doseby Barbara Vann

22 x 33 Mixed media collage

7 th in My Quarantine Diary series this piece shows me writing letters to people in PA, MI, and GA encouraging them to vote. My process is like cutting out dolls and their furniture as I go in new directions. This was very challenging so I found myself using different textures of papers: the shelves with tchotchkes and Emily are on lightly textured paper; rug on heavier texture; myself, loveseat, and table on smooth glossy stock, letters on computer paper, and box is cut-out cardboard.

Vote Forward, Helping To Save Our Democracyby Barbara Vann

22 x 31 Mixed media collage

5th in My Quarantine Diary series this piece is a collage with myself accompanied by my cat, Emily, reading from my iphone. The top of the piece shows the daily online news and art sites that I read as well as my reading to do list. My process revolves around the approach that there are “no mistakes; only opportunities”. As a result, the piece continues to evolve which keeps me engaged.

Perfect Imperfections by Freddi Weiner
